Beauty is skin-deep? Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder?
Last Saturday 6th Nov, Astro was showing two beauty pageants live from Hong Kong and Genting Arena. They are Miss Asia Cosmos 2004 and Miss Malaysia Chinese International Pageant 2004. If anyone's watched either of them would probably have thought to themselves 'what the true purpose of a beauty pageant was'. Was it just more than good looks? In recent years, the results of beauty pageants have truly amaxed me. Took me by surprise actually. Probably worth watching for those who believe than beauty is more than just what you see on the surface but what lies beneath.
I have always been a beauty pageant follower, most of you probably already figured that out by now. Until recently I strongly believed that beauty pageant should be participated by girls with quality ie. beautiful, a good body and brains of course. On the contrary i now think that even the less beautiful ones stand a chance. Being natural is being beautiful. But in this realistic world, how beautiful is beautiful? Just because one is not as slim as the other contestants, one is said to be 'fat'.
Undeniably, many amongst ourselves are critics. Often, we judge another person just too soon. For myself, I have learnt that pre-conceptions are evil. We should never judge someone before we get to know them. Surely we would hear rumours or stories about a particular someone. Often one's reputation precedes themselves, but are we too hasty in judging one before the other person gets an opportunity to even introduce themselves?
Nonetheless, beauty pageants still a thrill for me personally. Watching beauty pageants can be motivating sometimes. Definitely a good reminder to those girls who are putting on weight to start exercising!
